This past month has been a constant reminder that membership in the Trojan Family is truly lifelong and worldwide. On October 13-15, it was my great privilege to accompany USC President C. L. Max Nikias, members of the senior administration and faculty, and several alumni leaders to the 2011 USC Global Conference: "Global Challenges and Enhancing Opportunities" in Hong Kong (click here to view conference photos). Co-chaired by USC trustee Ronnie C. Chan MBA '76, this year's conference was especially noteworthy for the sheer number of alumni in attendance. More . . .

SHANGHAI ROLLS OUT THE CARDINAL CARPET
Three days after the 2011 USC Global Conference in Hong Kong, alumni leaders headed north to Shanghai for a Trojan Family Reception. The October 18 event drew more than 90 attendees and featured remarks by two USC deans: Roski's Rochelle Steiner and Viterbi's Yannis Yortsos.



COMING SOON: USC IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Celebrating our most distinguished faculty, USC in Your Neighborhood begins a four-city tour in New York City November 22. USC Viterbi dean Yannis Yortsos shares the dais with USC ICT's Paul Debevec, the Oscar-winning visual effects director whose techniques were used in Avatar.




STILL FIGHTING ON!
On October 28, several generations of Trojans came together in the spirit of "honoring the past, celebrating the present and building the future" at the Half Century Trojans Annual Luncheon. View the photo gallery here.

Enjoy Trojan Family camaraderie, delicious food and music at Homecoming tailgates presented by our multicultural alumni associations: the USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association, the USC Black Alumni Association, the USC Lambda LGBT Alumni Association and the USC Latino Alumni Association.




HONORING THE BRAVE
To commemorate our Trojan veterans, several Veterans Day-themed events will be held on campus November 6-17, including a screening of the documentary Wartorn: 1861-2010, a veteran student symposium and a discussion with novelist/veteran/combat photographer Thomas Steinbeck.


COMMUNITY SERVICE
Providing quality books to Southern California's poorest schools is the mission of Access Books, a nonprofit founded by Dr. Rebecca Constantino PhD '93. Since 1999, Access has donated more than a million books to LA-area schools. Watch Constantino on Oprah Winfrey's Project Angel Network.

Former SEC Chairman Christopher Cox '73 and energy executive Chengyu Fu MS '86 have been elected to the USC Board of Trustees. The Hollywood Reporter named Grey's Anatomy creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes MFA '94 one of television's top 50 showrunners.

GAME ON
Since founding thatgamecompany in 2006, Jenova Chen MFA '06 and Kellee Santiago MFA '06 have pushed the boundaries of interactive entertainment, designing such artistic and broadly accessible video games as "Flower" and the highly anticipated "Journey,"set for release this coming spring.

A New Name for World-Class Medicine
The University of Southern California's renowned doctors and nationally ranked private hospitals have a new name: Keck Medical Center of USC.

USC Opens San Francisco Office
USC's regional presence continues to expand with the establishment of a new office in San Francisco. Managed by University Advancement, the office is charged with creating increased visibility for the university in Northern California and building support, including philanthropic backing, for the university's strategic vision and priorities.

USC Signs MOU in Taiwan
USC Viterbi School of Engineering dean Yannis Yortsos signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan on Oct. 17.

USC, Lim Claim Golf Wins at Gifford Collegiate
Trojan senior earns his first win with three straight rounds in the 60s.
