Nobody knows how to put on a welcome like the Trojan Family! Every year, the alumni and university communities open their doors to tens of thousands of guests at events ranging from black-tie galas to informal gatherings. Incoming students get started early, attending USC's summer SCend Offs. Hosted by USC alumni clubs from Malibu to Mumbai, these welcome receptions for incoming students and their families provide a fun and convivial introduction to all things Trojan — and give current USC students the opportunity to forge lasting connections with alumni, and with each other, before even setting foot on campus. GOING FOR OLYMPIC GOLD
More than 30 current and former USC athletes, including gold medalists Alyson Felix '08 and Rebecca Soni '09, will be competing in the 2012 London Olympics, July 27-August 11 (View roster as of July 2). Since 1912, Trojans have won at least one gold medal in every Summer Olympics.


A HISTORIC ELECTION
On June 30, Mohamed Morsi PhD '82 was sworn in as Egypt's first democratically elected president. The USC Viterbi alumnus served as an independent lawmaker in Egypt's parliament from 2000 to 2005 and is the country's fifth president.


'SC IN THE UK: THE GLOBAL CONVERSATION

MEET THE NEWEST TRUSTEE
Kudos to Lisa Barkett '81, the 2011-12 USC Alumni Association Board of Governors president, who's been elected to a five-year term on the USC Board of Trustees. An attorney in private practice, she is also vice president of the real estate investment firm Merjan Financial Corp.

A few months after graduating from the USC Marshall School of Business, Dinika Bhatia '09 launched a brand of processed and packaged nuts called Nutty Gritties.Within the first year of starting DRB Foods Pvt. Ltd., she had placed Nutty Gritties in most of India's top retail chains.

USC to Create First Chair of Hindu Studies Funded by Indian-American Community
The $3.24 million gift from the Dharma Civilization Foundation to the School of Religion, housed within the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, will establish the Swami Vivekananda Visiting Faculty in Hindu Studies and the Dharma Civilization Foundation Chair in Hindu Studies.

USC Shoah Foundation Completes Digital Preservation of Holocaust Testimonies
The USC Shoah Foundation Institute has completed a multiyear, multimillion-dollar project to digitally preserve the video interviews of Holocaust survivors and other witnesses in its visual history archive. The archive contains testimony from nearly 52,000 individuals.

USC Global Health Conference Attracts Pacific Rim Leaders
Dozens of academics from across the Pacific Rim visited USC June 23-26 for the 2012 Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Global Health Program Workshop, organized by the USC Institute for Global Health.
