Alumni Headlines
In Memoriam: Louis Zamperini '40
On behalf of the Trojan Family, the USC Alumni Association expresses its condolences to the family of Louis Zamperini '40, Olympic athlete and decorated WWII veteran. His remarkable story of survival - enduring hellish conditions in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp after spending 47 days lost at sea - inspired Laura Hillenbrand's bestselling book Unbroken; the film version will be released in December.

Giving Back to Their Alma Mater
USC Trustees Thomas J. Barrack Jr. '69 and Andrew Viterbi PhD '62 recently made two transformative gifts to USC. Barrack's gift will advance USC Marshall's international business programs, while the gift from Viterbi and his wife Erna will significantly boost scholarship in engineering and genocide studies.

USC Legends in Print
Two new books chronicle the celebrated careers of two larger-than-life figures from USC's recent past. Adventures with a Historian is the memoir of the late John R. Hubbard (pictured), the university's 8th president, while Sonnets and Sunspots focuses on Dr. Frank Baxter, one of USC's most beloved and charismatic educators.

Politics Come to Life
A former senior advisor to the U.S. Department of Defense, Jeffrey Fields PhD '07 is returning to his alma mater to direct a new, Washington, D.C.-based semester-long program, concentrating on national security and intelligence. The program will launch in spring 2015.
