    A week from tomorrow, we will gather to bid a fond farewell to the members of the Class of 2019—and welcome them to our alumni community at USC¡¯s 136th Commencement on May 10.

    Graduation is a joyous occasion, celebrating the culmination of years of hard work by students who have realized their dreams of earning USC degrees. Now, with diplomas in hand and a treasure trove of memories, they stand ready to begin their next adventure, which may take some of them far from what¡¯s been their second home. More...

    86th Annual USC Alumni Awards
    On May 4, we will present the Asa V. Call Alumni Achievement Award, the university¡¯s highest alumni honor, to a woman of extraordinary grace and generosity: USC Trustee Kathleen L. McCarthy ¡¯57. Congratulations to her and all of this year¡¯s honorees!

    Saying Goodbye to a Cinematic Trailblazer
    John Singleton '90, who died on April 29, was the first African American filmmaker to earn a Best Director Oscar nomination. Boyz N the Hood (1991) did more than put him on the Hollywood map; it paved the way for other African American filmmakers to tell their stories in mainstream film.


    "Lifetime Adventurement No. 2"
    While sailing around the world the first time, Michael Lawler ¡¯75 and his wife Barbara survived encounters with AK-47-wielding pirates and fierce storms. Now they¡¯re planning a second round-the-world cruise for 2020 that could last up to five years.


    "The Carbon Wrangler"
    Julio Friedmann PhD ¡¯95 is using his scientific know-how to spur innovative ways of capturing carbon from the atmosphere to create new products and curb climate change.


    In Memoriam: USC Trustee Yang Ho Cho MBA '79
    On behalf of the Trojan Family, the USC Alumni Association expresses its condolences to the family of Yang Ho Cho, a successful businessman who led such major international transportation companies as Korean Air and Hanjin Transportation.

    U.S. Rep. Karen Bass MSW ¡¯15, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Cindy Hensley McCain '76, MS '78, the chairman of the board of the McCain Institute for International Leadership, will receive honorary degrees at Commencement 2019.

    David S. Kim MPA ¡¯94 has been named secretary of California¡¯s State Transportation Agency.
