USC 한국동문회가 USC의 Korea Country Scholarship Fund에 2019년부터 2028년까지 매년 1만 달러씩 10년 동안 10만 달러를 기부할 것을 약정했다. 지난 4월 23일, USC 한국동문회의 함영준 회장은 USC를 방문하여 기부약정서를 전달하는 기념식을 가졌다. 이 자리에는 Anthony Bailey, vice president for strategic and global initiatives, Paulo Rodrigues, associate vice provost for global engagement, Patrick Auerbach, associate senior vice president for alumni relations 와 Grace Shiba, executive director of the USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association 등이 함께하여 함회장을 환영하고 한국 동문회의 후원에 고마움을 전했다. 또한 Anthony Bailey 부총장은 함회장에게 학교를 대표하여 감사패를 증정했다. 

USC 한국동문회는 지난 1월에 열린 이사회에서 장학금 기부를 결정, 이미 3월에 1만 달러를 본교에 송금한 바 있다. USC Korea Scholarship은 USC Country Scholarship의 한국장학금으로서 성적이 우수한 한국 학부 신입생에게 수여된다. 이번 한국동문회의 기부로 올해 처음으로 USC에서 Korea Country Scholar가 배출될 예정이다.

The USC Alumni Club of Korea pledged to donate $10,000 annually to the USC Korea Scholarship Fund from 2019 to 2028. On April 23, Young Joon Ham, president of the USC Alumni Club of Korea, visited the USC campus to attend a donation ceremony, where he delivered the pledge document to Anthony Bailey, vice president for strategic and global initiatives. Other USC staff members who welcomed President Ham included Paulo Rodrigues, associate vice provost for global engagement, Patrick Auerbach, associate senior vice president for alumni relations, and Grace Shiba, executive director of the USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association. On behalf of USC, Vice President Bailey expressed his appreciation to the USC Alumni Club of Korea and presented an appreciation plaque to President Ham.

The USC Country Scholarship Funds were established to support international students entering USC for their undergraduate studies. As the alumni club of Korea has already donated $10,000 for the 2019-2020 academic year, the first Korea Country Scholar will be announced this year.

USC Gould School of Law의 Summer Law & English (SLE) Program 이 7월 15일부터 8월 9일까지 열린다. 이 프로그램은 법 전공자 혹은 관련 업무 종사자를 위한  4주간의 과정이다. 영어 말하기와 글쓰기의 능력을 향상시킬 뿐 아니라, 미국에서 법률공부를 하기위한 기초를 다지기 위한 프로그램으로서 모든 레벨의 학생들이 수강할 수 있다. Gould Law School 근처의 Campus Housing도 이용가능하다.

지난 4월, USC와 한국의 차의과학대학이 양교의 학문과 연구 협력을 위한 협약을 맺었다. 구체적 협력 내용은 차의과학대학 학생들이 USC의 다양한 Summer Program에 참여하는 것을 비롯해서 공동 교육연구 활동, 방문교수 활성화, 국내 및 국제 학술회의 초대 등이다. 이 협약이 체결됨으로써 차의과학대학에서는 이번 여름에 Clinical Pharmacy Summer Program과 USC Summer Occupational Therapy Immersion Program에 다수의 학생을 참가시킬 예정이다. 

차의과학대학은 1999년, 불임치료와 줄기세포 치료로 저명한 차광렬 박사가 설립한 종합대학으로 의과대학외에 5개 학부와 8개의 대학원으로 구성돼 있다. 설립자 차박사는 여러 개의 차 종합병원과 여성병원, 라이프 센터인 차움을 설립했으며 또한 엘에이에 있는 Hollywood Presbyterian Medial Center를 인수하기도 했다. 

In April, USC signed an Agreement of Cooperation with CHA University in Korea to facilitate academic and research cooperation. This summer, CHA University students will participate in the Clinical Pharmacy Summer Program and the USC Summer Occupational Therapy Immersion Program.

CHA University is a private university in Pocheon, Korea which consists of five undergraduate schools and eight graduate schools. The University was founded in 1999 by Dr. Kwang-Yul Cha, a world-renowned scientist in reproductive medicine. Along with CHA University, Dr. Cha established multiple medical and educational institutions. He is also the owner of the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in L.A.

지난 4월 6일, USC Price 행정대학이 올해 설립 90주년을 맞이해서 LA, 베이징에 이어 서울에서도 기념 리셉션을 가졌다. 남산 그랜드 하얏트호텔에서 열린 이 행사에는 USC Price School of Public Policy의 학장인 Jack H. Knott과 Associate Dean for Development and External Relations인 John Sonego 그리고 Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management인 Carol Rush를 비롯해 한국동문, USC Korea 대표, 파트너십을 체결한 한국의 대학 교직원, 올해 입학허가를 받은 학생 등 약 30명이 참석을 했다. Jack H. Knott 학장은 참석자들에게 감사와 환영인사를 하며 학교가 배출해 낸 동문들이 각계의 리더 자리에서 다양한 활약을 하는 것을 치하했다. 또한 한국 동문을 대표하여 정용덕 서울대학교 행정대학원 명예교수도 기념 축사를 전했다.

Price 행정대학은 1929년 The USC School of Citizenship and Public Administration으로 시작했다. 2011년, Price Family Foundation은  Price Club의 창립자이자 USC 졸업생인 Sol Price의 업적을 기리고자 5천만 달러를 기부하여 USC Sol Price of Public Policy로 개명하게 됐다. Price행정대학은 현재 학부와 석박사 프로그램을 비롯해서 15개의 research center를 보유한 미국 톱 행정대학 중의 하나이다. 2019년 3월 발표된 U.S. News& World Report에서 Price행정대학원은 285개 미국 행정대학원 중 3위에 선정됐다. https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-public-affairs-schools

On April 6, the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy held its 90th-anniversary celebration in Seoul.  Dean Jack H. Knott, Carol Rush, associate dean for student affairs and enrollment management, and John Sonego, associate dean for development and external relations, hosted a reception for approximately 30 attendees which included alumni, newly admitted students, and representatives from universities which have partnerships with the USC Price School. Dean Knott delivered the 90th-anniversary welcome address, emphasizing the USC Price School's distinction as a global leading public policy institution and showing praise for the contribution of USC Price alumni. His address was followed by a congratulation speech from Yong-duck Jung, professor emeritus at Seoul National University, also a USC Price alumnus.

In 1929, the USC Price School was originally established as the School of Citizenship and Public Administration, which became only the second public affairs school in the nation and the first in the West. In 2011, the Price Family Charitable Fund gave a $50 million naming gift to honor the life and legacy of USC alumnus Sol Price, founder of Price Club, and the school was renamed the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. According to the U.S. News & World Report, the USC Price School is currently ranked as No. 3 among 285 public affairs schools nationwide.

제 24회 Los Angeles Times Festival of Book at USC 가 지난 4월 13-14 양일에 걸쳐 USC Park Campus에서 열렸다. 이는 미국에서 가장 큰 도서·문화행사로서 USC에서 열리는 것은 9번째이다. 200여의 출판사와 전시자들이 참가한 이 행사는 USC Trojans Marching Band의 연주로 시작됐고 작가와의 대화, 공연 등 다채로운 프로그램이 이어졌다.  특히 USC Communities 부스에서는 시민들에게 무상으로 책을 나눠줬으며, Keck Medicine of USC Health Pavilion에서는 혈압, 시력, 치아 검사 등의 무료 건강검진을 제공했다. 1996년부터 시작된 이 Los Angels Times of Book 행사는 많은 작가와 아티스트, 영화 제작자 등과 시민들이 직접 소통하며 교류하는 기회를 제공해왔으며, USC는 이 행사를 위해 학문, 공연예술, 건강이슈, 시민참여에 중점을 둔 다양한 활동을 계획하는데 참여했다.

The event — the largest literary and cultural festival in the nation — attracted more than 150,000 people. Friends Emily Ellis and Tiffany Renfrow knew one way to stand out from the crowd at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at USC: banana hats.

The handmade hats were an ode to the banana peel-wearing protagonist of the children’s book Rumple Buttercup, about a monster who lives in a drain and struggles to fit in. The two were among dozens who waited for hours for a signing with author Matthew Gray Gubler, who is also an actor and director on the CBS show Criminal Minds. Read more

The 136th Commencement at the University of Southern California begins at 8:30 a.m. at Alumni Memorial Park. Individual school ceremonies follow the main ceremony. The honorary degree recipients are U.S. Rep. Karen Bass, conductor Arthur C. Bartner, dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, philanthropists Edythe and Eli Broad, statistician Emery Neal Brown and humanitarian Cindy Hensley McCain. Bass is also the commencement speaker.
