Tidings from Troy

Dear Fellow Trojans,

On October 18-19, we will celebrate what is arguably the biggest Trojan Family event of the year: Reunion Weekend 2019 and Homecoming.

Eight—yes, eight—undergraduate classes will return to campus and reconnect with old friends over the course of the two-day celebration, which concludes on Saturday with the USC vs. Arizona game at the Coliseum.

By any measure, the pre-game Homecoming celebration on campus is spectacular; the tremendous sense of pride and excitement in the air creates an energy that builds to the moment when thousands of fans follow the USC Trojan Marching Band into the stadium.

But there¡¯s much more to Homecoming than just the pre-game festivities. More...

A New Era Begins
On September 20, Trojans worldwide celebrated the inauguration of Dr. Carol L. Folt as USC¡¯s 12th president. Click here to watch the ceremony, which brought thousands of Trojans to Alumni Park on the University Park Campus.


Trojan Family Weekend Concert: Belinda Carlisle
The '80s icon who topped the charts as both the lead singer of The Go-Go¡¯s and as a solo artist will be playing all her hits in a free concert on McCarthy Quad on November 1. Register now and get ready to fall ¡°Head Over Heels.¡±

Hit the road this fall to cheer the Men of Troy to victory at our 2019 Weekenders! This month, we're facing off against the "Fighting Irish" in South Bend and the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder. Fight On!

Congratulations to SCA alum Hisham Abed ¡¯86 (pictured), who won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program: Queer Eye - "Black Girl Magic.¡± Click here for a list of USC alumni winners at the 71st Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, presented on September 14 and 15.


Flying High
The first woman to fly a 747, Angela Masson ¡¯71, MA ¡¯75, MPA ¡¯75, PhD ¡¯76 (pictured left), has broken many barriers for women in aviation. In 2018, Masson was inducted into the California Aviation Hall of Fame.

 

Trojan Alum-inaries



Novelists Cynthia Kadohata ¡¯79 (A Place to Belong) and Laila Lalami PhD '97 (The Other Americans) made the 2019 National Book Awards longlists for Young People¡¯s Literature and Fiction, respectively. The finalists will be announced on October 8 and the winners on November 20.

Matt Leinart ¡¯05 has been named to the 2019 class of the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame.
