USC Gould School of Law의 LLM (Master of Laws) 프로그램 입학설명회가 12월 6일 저녁 7시에 반포 JW Marriott호텔에서 열린다. 학교의 Ashley Sim, Assistant Director of Admissions, Graduate & International Programs가 직접 프로그램과 지원요강에 대해 설명하고, LLM동문들과 참가자들과의 질의 응답시간도 가질 예정이다. 프로그램뿐 아니라 U.S. Bar시험준비나 LA 생활에 관해서도 많은 정보를 얻을 수 있는 기회이다. 참가비는 무료이며 아래 링크에서 등록할 수 있다.

LLM 프로그램은 1년 과정으로 외국학생이 U.S. legal system을 이해하고 실제적으로 법과 관련된 업무에 적용할 수 있는 기본적 역량과 지식을 함양하여 글로벌 리더 역할을 하게 하는데 목적이 있다. 변호사나 검사, 법률과 관련된 업무에 종사하는 일반 회사원 등이 지원가능하다.

USC Summer Programs for High School는 고교생들이 USC에 입학하기 전에 캠퍼스내에 살면서 대학생활을 경험하며, 다양한 과목을 선택 수강함으로써 자신의 전공과 진로를 결정하는데 큰 도움을 얻을 수 있는 기회이다.    4주 코스를 선택하면 학부 3학점을 취득할 수도 있다. 모든 과목은 USC의 faculty나 혹은 분야별 전문가가 교육하며, 강의와 워크샵, 또한 academic field trip 등 다양하게 구성돼 있고, 일반적인 고교 수업이나 summer pre-collegiate 프로그램과는 차별화된  좀더 상호적이고 학생 참여적인 형태의 수업이다. 해외학생들의 경우 공인 영어성적을 제출해야하지만 영어지도교사의 추천에 의해 면제도 가능하다. USC Summer Programs

USC 신임총장 Dr. Folt가 영국 런던을 방문하여 10월 16일, King's College에서 Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) 를 받았다. 앞서 런던에서 열린 Discover SC event에서 참여하여 USC에 관심있는 학생들과 학부모에게 유럽지역에서의 USC의 성장하는 활동과 위상을 설명했으며, USC Overseas Studies programs의 학생들과도 직접 대화하는 시간을 가졌다.  Dr. Folt의 이번 방문은 multimillion-dollar campaign to preserve the storied royal church 를 관장하고 있는 USC동문인 Valerie Homphrey와 함께 Westminster 사원을 관람하는 것으로 마무리됐다. 런던은 USC의 9번째 international office가 설립된 곳으로서, 현재 유럽에서 가장 많은 약 400명의 USC동문들이 거주하고 있다.  

Following her presidential tour stopping in Chicago, USC President Carol L. Folt traveled to London for her first official visit abroad. The rainy city is home to USC’s newest international office, which works to raise the school’s profile in the U.K. and Europe. USC는 차기 운동감독으로 Cincinnati 대학의 운동 프로그램을 관장하던 Mike Bohn을 임명할 예정이다. 그는 USC에서 Charles Griffin Cale Director of Athletics’ Chair를 맡게 된다. Bohn은 U.S. Air Force Academy를 시작으로 Idaho대학, 콜로라도 대학, San Diego 주립대학, Cincinnati대학의 운동부와 여러 경기를 이끌면서 탁월한 리더십을 발휘해왔다. 최근 그는 Cincinnati대학의 여러 팀들이 주요 경기에서 우승하게 하는 데 큰 공을 세웠다. 그는 운동선수의 학업도 중시하여 2019년 봄학기에는 77프로 이상의 운동 선수들이 평균학점 3.0 이상을 기록하게 했으며, 남녀 성평등도 중요시해서 많은 여성코치들을 임명하기도 했다. Folt총장은 "Mike Bohn이야말로 뛰어난 운동실력을 자랑하는 트로잔 유산을 이어갈 에너제틱한 리더"라고 평했다.  

Mike Bohn will become USC’s next athletic director effective Monday, USC President Carol L. Folt announced. Bohn will hold the Charles Griffin Cale Director of Athletics’ Chair.

With a career that has spanned more than 35 years, Bohn is known for his integrity, leadership and student-centered focus. Starting at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Bohn has held key leadership roles in different conferences and successfully led athletics departments at the University of Cincinnati, University of Colorado, San Diego State University and the University of Idaho.

“In Mike, we have selected an energetic leader who will stay true to our Trojan heritage of outstanding athletic performance,” Folt said. “He has led athletics programs that are extremely competitive while demanding the highest level of integrity, and he will bring this winning combination to USC.”  Read more

지난 11월 16일, 서울 그랜드 인터컨티넨탈 파르나스 호텔에서 EducationUSA가 주관하는 미국 예술대학 유학박람회가 열렸다. 이날 행사에는 USC Thornton School of Music을 비롯하여 Berklee College of Music, Temple University 등 16개 예술대학이 참여했다. 행사는 주한미국대사관의 문화관인 Aaron Tarver의 환영사로 시작했으며, 대학관계자들과의 1:1상담 및 포트폴리오 리뷰시간으로 이어졌다. 또한 예술대학 진학을 원하는 학생들을 위한  ‘성공적인 포트폴리오 작성’과 ‘졸업후 진로’에 대한 세미나도 열려 많은 호응이 있었다.

USC Korea Office의 직원들이 USC의 Thornton 음악대학을 대표하여 학교의 다양한 프로그램에 대해 홍보했으며 학생과 학부모들에게 진학상담을 하기도 했다. 이밖에도 USC의 무용대학, 영화대학 등 다른 예술대학에 대해서도 관심있는 학생들에게 정보를 나누어줬다. 이 행사에는 약 160명의 학생과 학부모들이 참여를 했다.

EducationUSA는 미 국무부 산하 공식유학 상담센터 네트워크이며 전 세계 178개 국가, 430 여 개의 유학상담센터로 이루어져 있다. 2020년 4월 28일 부터 5월 2일까지 EducationUSA Korea EXPO가 서울과 인천, 제주, 부산에서 열릴 예정이다.

EducationUSA in Korea hosted the U.S. College Fair for Visual & Performing Arts on November 16th at the Grand InterContinental Parnas Hotel in Seoul.

16 U.S. colleges and universities specialized in the arts participated in the fair, including prominent institutions such as USC Thornton School of Music and Berklee College of Music. The event commenced with welcome remarks by Aaron Tarver, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Korea. Approximately 160 students attended along with their parents. Attendees of the fair were provided opportunities to receive 1:1 counseling with school representatives and to attend seminars such as ‘Tips for Creating the Best Art Portfolio’ & ‘How to Build a Career as an Artist’.

On behalf of the USC Thornton School of Music, USC Korea Office staff promoted various programs and counseled students on the admissions process. USC Korea Office also gave students a brief introduction to USC's School of Dramatic Arts, Kaufman School of Dance, and School of Cinematic Arts.
