지난 8월 6일, USC 신입생을 환영하는 입학식이 온라인으로 열렸다. 예년처럼 많은 축하객의 환호아래 Alumni Memorial Park로의 행진은 없었지만 새 트로잔 페밀리를 환영하는 전통과 정서는 변함이 없었다. Carol L. Folt 총장은 행사에서, 이 예기치 못한 상황에서 신입생들이 용기를 잃지말고 오히려 세상을 전진시키기 위한 새로운 아이디어를 고취시킬것을 당부했다. 평등과 기회에 대한 열정, 지속가능성에 대한 헌신, 기술에 대한 포용력과 탁월성을 달성하기 위한 야망이야말로 학생들이 USC에 가져올 수 있는 것이며, 이것이야말로 현 세계가 필요한 것들이라고 Trojan 신입생들을 격려했다.
올해는 편입지원을 포함한 학부 1만 5천명 이상의 지원자중에 3천 6백명이 USC로 입학을 했다. 이들의 고교 GPA는 USC역사상 가장 높은 점수였다. 또한 입학생 21퍼센트가 가족중에 처음으로 대학에 입학하는 경우였으며, 해외입학생의 수는 490명으로 집계됐다.
Folt 총장외에 USC Religious Life 학장 Varun Soni, USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism의 Alsion Trope 교수가 축사를 했으며, 또한 학부와 대학원 학생회를 대표한 임원들도 연사로 초대됐다. 이번 온라인 입학식은 다중언어로 실시간 중계됐다.

8월 6일 convocation ceremony를 시작으로 신입생과 재학생들을 위한 USC만의 고유한 Welcome Expericence 행사가 9월까지 열린다. 단과대학과 학생단체, 또한 연구기관 등이 주최하는 각종 세미나로부터 다양한 콘서트까지, 대부분 온라인으로 열리는 이 행사들은 학생들에게 새로운 경험을 제공할 것이다.

Master of Science in Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM) |

MS in Global Supply Chain Management는 USC Marshall School of Business와 USC Viterbi School of Engineering이 공동으로 제공하는 석사과정으로서, 2020 US News & World Report에서 온라인 프로그램 중 1위에 선정되기도 했다.
이 프로그램은 급변하는 글로벌 SCM(Supply Chain Management·공급망 관리) 업계가 필요로 하는 물류유통산업의 리더 양성을 목적으로, 교육과정을 통해 글로벌 경영 안목과 아이디어를 실현할 수 있는 국제 물류 전문가가 되기위한 전문성을 강화시킨다.
수업은 online 또는 full-time on-campus 두 옵션 중 선택 가능하며, online 수업을 택할 경우 지원시 GMAT 또는 GRE 성적은 제출하지 않는다. 프로그램의 지원 자격은 3년 이상의 경력을 지닌 직장인과 사업가를 포함한 비즈니스 종사자이며, 실무 경력과 면접을 통해 합격이 결정된다. 온라인 프로그램은 현재 지원 접수 중이며, 자세한 사항은 웹사이트 통해 확인 가능하다. |

USC Viterbi School of Engineering의 Master of Science in Civil Engineering - Advanced Design & Construction Technology (ADCT) 프로그램은 미래의 지속가능한 (sustainability) 도시, 사회기반시설, 건물, 시스템의 설계와 엔지니어링에 대해 통합적인 시각을 갖춘 21세기 건축 환경의 전문인력을 양성하는 것을 목표로 한다.
이 ADCT 프로그램을 통해 학생들은 설계, 엔지니어링 및 건설 기술에 대한 통합적 접근방법과 지속가능성을 포함해 데이터 분석 및 시각화, 컴퓨팅, 모델링, 시뮬레이션, 프로세스 엔지니어링 및 제조, 리더십, 설계 및 혁신 등 핵심 주제에 대한 전문지식을 쌓을 수 있다. 졸업생들은 공공산업 인프라, 스마트시티, 건축과 기술 분야에 주력하는 테크놀로지나 매니지먼트 컨설팅사에서 일할 수 있다. 2021년 봄학기 지원 마감일은 9월 15일이며, 지원 과정 등 자세한 내용은 이곳에서 찾아볼 수 있다. |

USC Virtual SCend Off for incoming students held in Seoul |

| 지난 7월 27일 USC 학부 한국 신입생을 위한 SCend Off행사가 열렸다. USC SCend Off 행사는 각 지역의 동문들이 신입생을 환영하는 행사로서, 올해는 COVID-19사태로 인해 전 지역에서 온라인으로 열렸다. USC 한국동문회의 안용배 총무의 사회로 진행된 이 행사는 동문회 함영준 회장의 환영사로 시작됐다. 함회장은 신입생들에게 COVID-19 사태와 관련된 뉴 노말(new normal)에 대한 대처를 강조했으며, 이어서 젊은 동문들의 모임인 Trojan 21임원과 재학생들이 학교생활과 LA 생활에 대한 소개를 했다. 또한 최희연 USC Korea Office Director와 Grace Shiba, Executive Director, USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association, USC Alumni Association도 인사말을 했다. 이 행사에는 신입생을 포함하여 약 40명이 참여를 했다. 이번 2020년 가을 학기에는 학부신입생 38명, 대학원 신입생 100여 명이 입학을 했다. |

| On July 27, USC SCend Off event was held for incoming undergraduates in Korea. USC SCend Off is an annual event hosted by regional USC alumni to welcome incoming USC students which helps to connect new students and their families to local alumni. As COVID-19 pandemic continues unabated globally, this year the event was held virtually. It began with a welcoming speech by Ham, Young-Joon, the president of the USC Alumni Club of Korea, he emphasized how we deal with the New Normal of the era of COVID-19. Followed by the speech, Trojan 21, a group of young USC Korean alumni shared the life in campus & LA. Director of the USC Korea Office, Choi Hee-Yeon and Grace Shiva, Executive Director, USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association also gave greetings to new students. About 40 people including new incoming students participated in the event. This Fall, 38 undergraduate, and more than 100 graduate students from Korea entered the USC. |

USC launches new sustainability research initiative |

USC는 남캘리포니아에 위해한 도시환경과제를 해결하기 위한 세가지 프로젝트와 함께, 지속가능성에 촛점을 둔 새로운 연구 이니셔티브를 시작했다. 이달 초 발표된 이 프로젝트에는 스모그 버스트 건축자재 연구, 지속가능한 농업과 인간건강 증진을 위한 진단장치, 물관리를 촉진하기 위한 USC의 새로운 연방연구허브 등이 포함돼 있다. 이러한 주제들은 전문교수진들에 의해 선정된 것으로, 그 이유는 지역에 도움을 줄 뿐 아니라 세계적으로도 응용가능성이 있기 때문이라한다.
