The Statistics of 2016 Freshman Admitted Students
The acceptance letter for the 2016 applicants has been sent out. Among the 54,100 applicants, 8,920 students, which is about 16.5% of the applicants were admitted. 41% of the students are in-state applicants, and other top states were Florida, Illinois, New York, Texas and Washington. There were admits from all 50 states and 75 countries, including Canada, China, India, Singapore and Korea. Average GPA of the new admits was 3.84 and 31% of them accomplished 4.0 GPA. USC provides $300 million in financial aid for undergrads and about two-thirds students are eligible for financial aid. Read more
USC Gould School of Law Holds Welcome Reception for Admitted Students
The USC Gould School of Law held a welcome reception for admitted students for the Mater of Laws (LL.M.) program on March 2 at JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul. Hosted by Sarah Hall, Career Service Advisor of Gould School of Law and accompanied by Dr. Hee-yeon Choi, Director of USC Korea, the reception welcomed approximately 20 admitted students. Ms. Hall gave a presentation introducing LL.M. programs, faculty and staff at school. Several LL.M. alumni members also joined the event to share their experience at USC and respond to the questions brought by the admitted students. LL.M. program is a masters degree program for professionals working in fields related to laws outside US and are interested in studying US laws and its legal system. USC Price School of Public Policy Enters MOU with Korea University
A meeting for establishment of MOU between the Department of Public Administration of Korea University and USC Price School of Public Policy was held on March 18th. Carol Rush, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management of Price School, Dr. Hee-yeon Choi, the Director of USC Korea, professor Hyun Joon Kim and professor Kyojoon Koo from the Department of Public Administration of Korea University joined for the meeting. This MOU aims to facilitate academic and research cooperation in areas of public policy and urban planning between two schools. On the grounds of the established MOU, there will be 2 - 3 exchange students every semester, and visiting faculty members and researchers to the partner schools. USC Price School also has MOU with Seoul National University and Yonsei University in Korea.
The Price School also hosted welcome receptions for admitted students at Seoul National University on 17th and at JW Mariott Hotel on 18th. The reception held at the SNU welcomed the admitted students for the Dual Degree program between the Graduate School of Public Administration, SNU and the USC Price School.
USC Price School of Public Policy ranked 4th among the 272 universities in Public Affairs according to U.S. News & World Report in 2016.
Korean Alumni Participates USC Alumni Day of SCervice
USC Alumni Club of Korea participated in the USC Alumni Day of SCervice organized by the USC Alumni Association. USC Alumni Day of SCervice is a project in which the USC alumni members of the world volunteer to help the local community. The project was based on an idea of "A global network of Trojans pitched in to help communities around the world." The USC Alumni members of Korea gathered at Chung-gye mountain for the nature conservation activity. About 20 alumni members including President Yu-sang Park, former President Bong-rak Son and Chair of the Hiking Club Chan-young Kim climbed the mountain collecting trash. The alumni had lunch together after the event.
The Spring meeting of TPN of Korea was held in Seoul on March 24. There were approximately 20 attendees, including Eun Kyung Kim, the President of TPN, Dr. Hee-yeon Choi, Director of USC Korea , and Hyun Joon Park, the Secretary General of USC Alumni club of Korea. The plaques for the class of 2016 were awarded and attendees shared information and their experience about issues such as housing and internship. TPN is a society of parents whose children are enrolled at USC and was created in 2011 to help the parents socialize and exchange useful information on studying abroad. TPN meets twice a year in Spring and Autumn and routinely holds informal meetings such as cultural events, golf, and volunteer activities throughout the year.
