Dear Fellow Trojans,

It¡¯s no exaggeration to say that our Trojan Family ties span the globe. Whether you¡¯re traveling to Temecula or Tel Aviv, you¡¯re bound to meet a close-knit group of local 'SC alums proudly wearing cardinal and gold. In fact, I¡¯m ¡°writing¡± you from Israel, where I¡¯m currently traveling with USC Latino Alumni Association leaders for a Trojan Family experience, full of discovery and wonder, and an incredible opportunity to connect with Trojans across the world.

Our trip to Israel comes as we say goodbye to another remarkable year in the life of the university and the Trojan Family—a year chronicled in the USC Alumni Association¡¯s 2015-16 Snapshot. Thanks in large part to you—our loyal Trojans in Southern California, across the country and around the world—USC continues to ascend to the top tier of the world¡¯s great private research universities. USC Takes the Lead in Recruiting Minority Students
In a recent interview published in the Wall Street Journal, USC President C. L. Max Nikias talks about why USC is now a leader among the nation's top private research universities in enrolling minority students from poor families.


USC Trustee Verna B. Dauterive Dies at 93
Dauterive MEd '49, EdD '66 was an inspirational and influential educator who shared with her late husband, Peter W. Dauterive '49, a lifelong devotion to giving back to USC and the Los Angeles community.


Trojan-in-Chief
On May 26, Rod Nakamoto '83, MBA '94 was formally installed as the 2016-17 president of the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors at its annual meeting on the University Park Campus. Nakamoto is a past president of the USC Asian Pacific Alumni Association Board of Directors.


A New Residential College at USC Village
USC Trustee David C. Bohnett ¡¯78 has pledged $15 million to endow and name the David C. Bohnett Residential College at USC Village. Focusing on social justice and community service, it will form part of a thriving learning and living  community for students, faculty and support staff.


Summer SCend Offs 2016
Join fellow Trojans in welcoming freshmen to the Trojan Family at a SCend Off reception near you. These informal get-togethers connect new students and their families to local alumni and alumni groups.


Weekenders 2016: Travel. Win. Repeat.
Pack your bags and join us to cheer the Men of Troy to victory at five away games this season. You'll enjoy activities that include pep rallies, tailgates and much more! Our 2016 Weekenders kick off in Arlington, Texas on September 3, when the Trojans face the Alabama Crimson Tide!


7th Annual Tommy Awards

Meet the New USC Dornsife Dean
Amber Miller, dean of science for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Columbia, has been named dean of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, effective Aug. 16. The L.A. native will be the first female dean of USC¡¯s largest, oldest and most academically diverse school.

Former Seattle Mariners second baseman and ¡®SC baseball great Bret Boone ¡¯90 has written a memoir, Home Game: Big-League Stories from My Life in Baseball¡¯s First Family.

Actress/singer Renée Elise Goldsberry MM ¡¯97 has received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Hamilton.

USC LAA Executive Director Domenika Lynch '98, MFT '15 has been named president and CEO of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington, D.C.



Young Alumni Spotlight

After a freak surfing accident in 2008 left him a quadriplegic with no use of his legs and limited use of his arms, then-USC Viterbi School of Engineering PhD student Ryan Williams ¡¯14 resisted the temptation to withdraw into himself. His physical limitations notwithstanding, Williams instead redoubled his academic efforts to realize his dream.
