지난 6월 22일 영등포 TCC 아트홀에서 2017 USC SCend Off 행사가 열렸다. 학부 및 대학원 신입생과 가족, 재학생, 동문 등 약 70명이 참석한 가운데, 행사는 USC 한국동문회의 박현준 총무와 USC Korea의 최희연 Director, USC 한국 학부모회의 장지원 회장의 환영사로 시작됐다. 이어서 KBSO를 비롯한 여러 USC의 한인학생모임의 임원들이 캠퍼스 생활과 LA 지역에 관한 정보를 슬라이드와 함께 자세히 설명해주었다. 또한 학부모 그룹, 대학원과 학부 신입생들이 각각 모여 개별적인 질의응답시간을 가지기도 했다.
SCend Off는 USC 총동문회에서 주최하는, 새로 트로잔 가족이 되는 신입생을 환영하기 위해 매년 여름에 열리는 행사이다. 한국에서의 행사는 특히 젊은 동문들의 모임인 Trojan 21과 USC 한인 재학생의 여러 동아리 임원들이 적극적으로 참여해 신입생들에게 유익한 학업과 생활에 대한 정보를 나누고 있다. 한편 한국 USC 학부모회의 가입을 원하는 학부모는 tpnkorea@gmail.com 으로 연락하면 된다.
On June 22, USC SCend Off was held at TCC Art Hall in Seoul. "SCend Off" is an annual event to welcome new students hosted by USC Alumni Club of Korea. This year’s SCend Off attracted more than 70 people including students and parents. Attendees were greeted by welcome speeches from Hyun Jun Park, Secretary General of USC Alumni Club of Korea, Hee-Yeon Choi, Director of USC Korea, and Ji Won Jang, President of Trojan Parents Network of Korea. Student members from KBSO (Korean Business Student Organization) and other USC Korean Students association gave presentations on academics, on/off campus life, and general tips about LA life. Following the presentations, the attendees were divided into three groups: graduate, undergraduate, and parents group. Each group held a Q&A session led by either current students or recent graduates.

USC School of Pharmacy announces new Department of Regulatory and Quality Sciences |

USC School of Pharmacy는 Department of Regulatory and Quality Sciences을 신설했다. 학과장으로는 이 분야의 전문가로 국제적 명성이 있는 Frances J. Richmond가 임명됐다. Regulatory and Quality Sciences는 사회 대응형 과학으로서 제약 생산이나 보급, 임상실험의 사회적 규제 관리 등을 연구하는 학문이며, USC는 1999년에 이 프로그램을 설립하여 선도적 역할을 담당해왔다. 이번에 독립된 학과를 설립함으로써 Regulatory and Quality Science 교육을 위한 더욱 강화된 리더십을 발휘할 예정이다.
오늘날 세계 곳곳에는 USC의 regulatory science 프로그램 졸업생 600명 정도가 산업, 정부 및 학계에서 규제 업무에 종사하고 있다. Richmond 학과장은 규제 과학 전문가의 필요성이 증대되는 상황에서 Department of Regulatory and Quality Sciences 설립을 적극적으로 환영한다고 말했다.
The USC School of Pharmacy has established a new Department of Regulatory and Quality Sciences, appointing internationally renowned regulatory expert Frances J. Richmond as its chair. USC Rossier's WMLT Program starts this fall |

USC Rossier School of Education이 신설한 World Masters in Language Teaching program이 이번 가을 학기부터 시작한다. 이 프로그램은 문화와 언어의 다양성을 존중하는 글로벌한 언어교육을 취지로 설립됐으며, 프로그램 파트너 대학은 한국의 연세대와 홍콩과학기술대학(HKUST)이다. 학생들은 USC에서 소정의 프로그램을 수강하고 선택한 파트너 대학에서 필요한 과정을 마친 후 이중 석사학위를 취득하게 된다. WMLT프로그램은 현재 다음과 같이 나뉜다. |

- Chinese and English dual degree pathway: Master of Arts in International Language Education (MAILE) degree with a concentration in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) or Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

The World Masters in Language Teaching (WMLT) program is a dynamic dual degree program that will prepare students to teach English and another language to a variety of learners in multilingual and multicultural settings in the U.S. and around the world. USC President C. L. Max Nikias named chair of Pac-12 CEO group |

C. L. Max Nikias USC 총장이 12 명의 대학 총장으로 구성된 Pac-12 CEO 그룹의 의장으로 지명됐다. Pac-12 컨퍼런스는 1915년에 설립된 미서부지역의 대학 체육협회이며, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, Washington State University 등 12 대학교로 구성되어 있다. Pac-12는 타 지역의 팀보다 NCAA (전 미 대학 체육협회)의 챔피온십을 월등히 많이 취득하여 "Conference of Champions"라 불리기도 한다. Pac-12의 협회장 Larry Scott는 " Pac -12 CEO 그룹은 이 지역 대학과 700명의 학생운동선수들을 위해 대단히 중요한 역할을 한다. Nikias 의장이야말로 앞으로 Pac-12의 체육 교육과 발전을 위해 비전을 제시하는 리더로서의 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다"라고 말했다. Nikias 총장은 2016년 1월에 CFP (College Football Playoff) Board of Managers의 의장으로 선출되기도 했다. Max Nikias has been named as chair of the Pac-12 CEO Group, the conference’s governing body consisting of all 12 university presidents and chancellors. “I look forward to working closely with President Nikias, who will provide thoughtful, effective and visionary leadership at an important time for intercollege athletics and for the Pac-12,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott.
