USC International Center for Regulatory Science 의 Director인 Eunjoo
Pacifici 박사가 9월 13-15 한국을 방문했다. Dr. Pacifici는 13일 USC Korea office를 방문하여 최희연
디렉터와 Regulatory Science 프로그램의 한국 홍보와 학생모집에 관해 의견을 나누었다. 이후 대한파킨슨병 및 이상운동질환학회에서
프레젠테이션을 가졌으며, 성균관대학에서는 " 21세기의 약품개발"이라는 주제로 학생을 상대로 강연을 했다.
Regulatory Science는 제약 및 생물학적 약제의 생산과 보급, 임상실험 등을 사회규제나 관리와 연관시켜
공부하는 학문이다. 4차 혁명시대를 맞이하여 Bio Science의 중대성이 증가하고 있으며 Regulatory Science전문가들의 수요도
절대적으로 필요하다고 한다. Regulatory Science는 STEM과목으로 외국학생들이 미국에서 3년 동안 Optional
Practical Training을 할 수 있으며 많은 인턴십 기회와 함께 구직이 용이한 분야이다. USC의 Regulatory
Science프로그램은 우수한 교수진과 시설, 종합적이고 체계적인 커리큘럼으로 이 분야 교육에 선도적인 역할을 하고

Dr. Eunjoo Pacifcii, Director of USC
International Center for Regulatory Science, visited Seoul from September
13-15th. On September 13th, Dr. Pacifici met with Director of USC Korea office,
Hee-Yeon Choi to promote Regulatory Science Program in Korea. During her stay in
Korea, Dr. Pacifici also made a presentation at the Korean Movement Disorder
Society, and lectured students on "Drug Development in 21st century" at
Sungkyunkwan University.
Regulatory Science is a study that relates
the regulatory and legal requirements of pharmaceutical/ biomedical product
development to the scientific research needed to ensure the safety and efficacy
of those products.
Facing the upcoming of the Fourth Industrial
Revolution, Bio-science is getting more and more important, and need for
Regulatory Science Professionals is at its

Regulatory Science is one of the STEM subjects
that international students can gain Optional Practical Training for three
years, and further seek internship or permanent job opportunities easily. USC's

USC Alumni Club of Korea held a cultural
event | |

지난
9월 16일 USC한국총동문회의 문화예술모임이 열렸다. 이번 행사는 특별히 젊은 여성 동문을 대상으로 한것으로, 박현준 문화예술 소그룹 회장,
고예솔 총무 등 10여 명의 동문과 USC Korea의 최희연 디렉터가 청담동 CGV의 sweet box에서 Tom Cruise 주연,
Doug Liman 감독의 " American Made"를 함께 관람했다. 동문회의 문화예술모임은 1년에 두번씩 정기 모임을 갖고 있다.
박회장은 이번 모임을 시작으로 젊은 여성 동문들이 문화예술의 감상뿐 아니라 교류와 친목도 나누며 동문회에 적극적으로 참여하기 바란다고

On
September 16th, USC Alumni Club of Korea had a Culture & Art gathering which
was especially for young alumnae. More than 10 alumni, including the Director of
USC Korea, Hee-Yeon Choi, gathered at CGV Chungdam. They watched "American Made"
starring Tom Cruise. Hyun Joon Park, President of Culture & Art group said
that he hopes for more young alumnae to participate in these events to enjoy
cultural activities together and communicate with other alumni through USC
Alumni Club of Korea.

Trojan Parents Network of Korea had Fall regular
gathering | |

한국학부모회 ( Trojan Parents Network of Korea)의 2017년 첫 공식 모임이 지난 9월 21일 강남의 한 식당에서
열렸다. 4명의 신입생 학부모를 포함해서 총 20명이 참석한 이번
모임은 학부모회를 비롯해서 USC KOREA와 USC한국동문회에 대한 소개, 학교소식과 신입생 정보 교환으로 이어졌다. 또한 재학생 동찬군의
결혼 축하선물 증정과 지난 번 참석하지 못한 졸업생 학부모님을 위한 졸업 축하자리도 가졌다. 저녁 식사 후 부부동반 참석자와 몇몇 어머니들은
자리를 옮겨 모임을 이어 나갔다. TPN은 학교 및 학생들의 소식과 정보 교환을 목적으로 1년에 세번 정기모임을 갖고 있다. TPN에 가입을

Parent Network of Korea had their first official meeting of the year on
September 21st at a restaurant in Seoul. A total of 20 members attended this
gathering, including new parents of freshmen students. Their main agenda was to
introduce TPN, USC Korea and USC Alumni club Korea, and share the news on school
and students. They had the opportunity to make congratulations to a recent
marriage of current student who is a son of TPN member and also late greetings
to a member's daughter for her graduation. TPN holds regular meetings three
times a year to share the information on their children's study abroad and to

USC ranked high in the U.S. News & World Report's
National University

USC가
US News & World Report가 발표한 2018 National University 랭킹에서 Emory 대학, UC
Berkely, UCLA와 함께 공동 21위를 차지했다. 톱 5 대학은 프린스턴, 하바드, 시카고, 예일, 컬럼비아 대학의 순이다. USC는
23%의 학부생이 연방정부의 Pell Grant를 받아 "economic diversity" 부문에서 4위, " 참전용사를 위한 best
college"부문에서 5위, "인종적 다양성" 부문에서는 33위에 올랐다. Viterbi 공대의 학부는 톱 공과대학 25위 순위에 놓였다.
또한 USC는 동문기금 분야에서는 무려 41%의 동문들의 기부 참여율로 3위, 학부생을 위한 재정지원에서는 22위에 올랐다. 한편 고등학교
입학 카운슬러들은 USC를 22위 순위에 선정했다. USC는 미대학 중에 13번째로 외국 유학생 학부생이 많은 학교로 꼽혔다.

USC as the No. 21 national university. USC was ranked No. 4 for “economic
diversity,” with 23 percent of its undergraduate students receiving Pell Grants,
and No. 5 on the report’s “best college for veterans” list, up eight spots from
last year. USC was also ranked No. 15 among the “most innovative” universities
(up four spots from 2016), No. 33 in “ethnic diversity,” and the No. 40 best
value college.The USC Marshall School undergraduate program was ranked No. 11.
The USC Viterbi School’s undergraduate program was ranked No. 25 among top
engineering schools whose highest degree is a doctorate, up three spots. USC
also ranked No. 3 in alumni giving with 41 percent of all alumni contributing to
the university. USC's financial resources for undergraduate students rank went
up three spots to No. 22 and the university's student-to-faculty ratio improved
from 9:1 to 8:1. High school counselors ranked USC as their No. 22 top college,
up six spots, and selectivity rank among national universities improved to No.
29. In a new category in this year's rankings, USC has the 13th highest
percentage of international undergraduate students among national

Global Conference in Tokyo a Great

USC Global Conference가 9월 21-23일 일본 도쿄에서 성황리에 치러졌다. "미래의 창조"를 주제로 한 이 행사에는
USC동문과 교직원, 세션 연사 등을 포함하여 전세계로부터 약 500명이 참석 했다.
개막식은
USC Vice President for Strategic and Global Initiatives인 Anthony Bailey와 USC
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs인 Michael Quick의 환영사로 시작이
되었으며 USC 총장 Max Nikias의 인사말과 더불어 이어서 세계적 바이올리니스트이자 USC 음대 교수인 Midori Goto의 연주가
있었다. 다음날 행사는 Nikias 총장의 환영사와 기조연설자 Sony Corporation의 Kazuo Hirai회장과의 인터뷰로 시작이
됐다. Kazuo Hirai 회장은 가상현실 (, Virtual Reality) 및 인공지능 ( Artificial Intelligence)과
같은 기술의 힘과 이런 기술이 우리 삶에 어떤 영향을 미칠 수 있는 지에 대해 얘기했다. 이어서 컨퍼런스에는 각자 관심에 따라 참석할 수 있는
10여개의 세션이 진행됐다. 각 세션의 연사는 USC 의 학장과 교수 뿐 아니라 기업가, 정치가 등 다양하게 구성되어 전문적 지식을 나누고
참가자들과 토론의 시간을 갖기도 했다.
이번
컨퍼런스는 USC가 과학, 인문, 엔지니어링, 약학, 기업 활동, 예술, 그리고 엔터테인먼트 분야에서 크리에이티브 테크놀로지의 선두주자임을
다시 한번 확인시키는 행사였다. 마지막 날은 갈라 디너와 함께 USC Kaufman School Dance팀의 화려한 공연이 펼쳐졌고
Nikias총장이 다음 컨퍼런스 개최지로 베이징을 발표하며 그 화려한 막을

2017 USC Global Conference
was held successfully on September 21-23 at Tokyo, Japan. The main theme of the
conference was "Creating Future" and it focused on how the impact of the
technology on our lives continues to accelerate and widen. In this event, USC
faculty, staff, alumni were joined by approximately 500 guests around the world.
Anthony Bailey, USC Vice President for Strategic and Global Initiatives, and
Michael Quick, USC Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs kicked
off the event with a welcoming speech and the opening ceremony followed by USC
President, Max Nikias's greeting, and a performance by world-renowned violinist
and distinguished Professor at the USC Thornton School of Music, Midori
Goto.
In the next day, beginning with a welcoming remarks from Max
Nikias, keynote speaker Kazuo Hirai, president and CEO of Sony, had a
conversation on future of creative technology in new consumer market segments
with audience. Ten other branch sessions with variety related topics were also
held, which participants could attend at their interest. Each session speakers
were not only renowned scholars from USC but also business, government, and
academic leaders around the world, and they shared their expertise and exchanged
ideas with other attendants. Participants at the Global Conference learned how
USC, as the world leader in creative technologies, has been at the forefront of
turning creativity into reality in sectors including the sciences, humanities,
engineering, medicine, entrepreneurship, the arts and entertainment. The
conference ended with a closing dinner and a contemporary dance repertory by
students from USC Kaufam School of Dance. President C.L. Max Nikias shared the
destination of the next event, Beijing.
USC’s Global Conference series is
held in major world cities and brings together renowned academics and
influential business leaders to present and discuss the latest research results
across the full range of academic disciplines and their influence on the Pacific
Rim.
