지난 11월 24일 USC Gould School
of Law 입학설명회가 아셈타워에 있는 법무법인 '화우'의 컨퍼런스 룸에서 열렸다. 약 20명이 참석한 가운데 Gould 법학대학원의
Student Services Advisor인 Stefani Lee 씨가 대학의 다양한 프로그램들을 소개했으며, 특히 학국학생들이 관심이 많은
LL.M. 과정에 대해 상세히 설명을 했다. 이날 행사에는 LL.M. 동문들이 학업의 경험담을 나누고 질의 응답시간을 통해 참석자들의 궁금한
점에 대해 답변을 했다.
LL.M. 프로그램은 1년과 2년 과정으로 나누어져 있으며, 미국법에 대한 이해와 더불어 분쟁해결, 미디어
및 엔터테인먼트와 같은 특화된 분야의 certificate도 취득할 수 있다. 또한 소정과정을 마친 후에는 뉴욕주, 캘리포니아주, 워싱턴
D.C.의 변호사 자격시험을 응시할 수도 있다. 로스쿨 과정은 LSAC(Law School Admission Council)를 통해 온라인

The USC Gould School of Law hosted
an information session at the Yoon & Yang Law firm in Seoul, Nov, 24.
Presented by Stefani Lee, Student Services Advisor at Graduate and International
Programs, there were approximately 20 attendees. The majority of the
prospective students were practicing attorneys at Korean law firms and
government agencies. The session introduced degrees offered by the school, the
curricula, admission requirements, and the application process. Gould School of
alumni served as panelists sharing their vast experiences at USC regarding
coursework, school life, career path and more. The Gould School offers several
programs, including 1-year Master of Laws (LL.M.), Master of Comparative Law
(M.C.L.), Visiting International Laws Program (V.I.P.), Summer Law & English
programs, and Juris Doctor (J.D.) programs.

지난 22일 강남 예인스페이스에서 USC 한국동문회
IT 소모임 (회장: 윤대균) 이 주최하는 IT세미나가 열렸다. 이번 세미나는 "블록체인: 4차 산업혁명의 국가핵심 인프라" 라는 주제로,
USC 동문이자 고려대 컴퓨터학과에 재직중인 인 호 교수가 강의를 맡았다. 인 교수는 앞으로 정보통신기술의 융합이 주도하는 4차 산업혁명시대를
맞이해 국가경쟁력을 강화하기 위해서는 블록체인기술의 개발과 관련 산업의 육성이 절대적으로 필요하다고 역설했다. 그러면서 블록체인의 개념과
필요성과 이러한 기술을 기반으로 하는 비트코인 등의 암호화폐, 또한 블록체인 기반 프로젝트를 위한 투자모금방법인 ICO (Initial Coin
Offering) 등 다양한 문제들에 관해 설명을 했다. 이날 행사에는 50여명이 참석하여 강의를 경청했으며 인 교수와 질의 응답시간을 갖기도
했다. 인 호 교수는 한국블록체인학회 초대학회장이며, 11월 24일 여의도 중소기업 중앙회 건물에서 한국블록체인학회 학술행사를 가지기도

On November 22, USC Alumni Club of
Korea IT group held a seminar at 'Yein Space' in Seoul to study about
Blockchain. The seminar titled "Blockchain: the Government's Core Infrastructure
in the Fourth Industrial Revolution" was led by an USC alumnus, Professor Hoh
Peter In from Korea University. Professor In said that the Korean government
should invest extensively in Blockchain technology and related industries in
order to lead the van of the fourth industrial revolution era. Two hour-long
lecture covered general knowledge of Blockchain, Crypto currency, ICO, and so
on. More than 50 alumni attended the seminar and they were able to debate
enthusiastically about current issues in Blockchain technology during the
Q&A session.

10일 USC Annenberg 언론대학원이 Master of Public Diplomacy (MPD)과정을 홍보하기 위해 서울 힐튼밀레니엄
호텔에서 열린 the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA)
박람회에 참가했다. 행사에는 International Affairs 분야에 관심 있는 학생들이 많이 참석했으며 Annenberg 언론대학원의
입학담당자가 MPD 학위과정에 대한 지원요강과 장학금 제도 등에 대해 소개했다. APSIA에는 USC를 포함하여 총 37개 학교가 소속돼 있다.
이번 박람회에는 USC이외에도 Columbia, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, National University of
Singapore 등 16개 대학의 언론, 행정 및 국제 분야 과정 담당자가 참석했다.
USC MPD과정은 Annenberg
언론대학원과 the USC School of International Relations이 연계된 프로그램이며, 학생들은 졸업 후 기업이나 비영리
조직, 정부기관 등에서 국제적 전문가가 될 수 있도록 공공외교 전반에 걸친 교육을

USC
Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism participated in the
Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) fair in
Seoul on November 10th. Senior Assistant Director of Admissions of USC Annenberg
School, Fernando Peña attended the event to promote USC Master of Public
Diplomacy (MPD). The USC MPD is a member of APSIA which consists of member
schools and affiliated programs dedicated to the improvement of professional
education in international affairs. Representatives of other 16 schools also
participated in the fair, including Columbia University School of International
and Public Affairs, Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government,
Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies,
and National University of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew School of Public
Policy.
The USC MPD combines the resources of the USC Annenberg School
for Communication and USC College’s School of International Relations. Students
in this program may emphasize public diplomacy training appropriate for a career
in public service, the corporate world or in a non-governmental organization
working in the ever-expanding global civil

1일, C. L. Max Nikias USC 총장과 기부자 Michelson부부가 참석한 가운데 University Park Campus에서
Michelson Hall의 준공식이 열렸다. Michelson Hall은 생명공학의 발전을 도모하기 위해 척추 정형외과 전문의인 Gary K.
Michelson과 그의 아내 Alya Michelson의 5천만달러의 기부로 건립됐다. 이 건물은 19만 평방 피트의 면적으로
University Park Campus에서 가장 큰 규모이다. 총 1억 8천 5백만달러의 예산을 들여 제작 실험실, 수중 실험실, 컨퍼런스 및
연구를 위한 공간 등 다양한 시설이 갖춰질 예정이다.
Michelson Hall은 화학, 생물학, 약학, 수학, 공학 및 물리학 등
다양한 학제간 융합학문과 전문가들의 협업을 통해 세계 인류의 건강 및 질병 문제를 연구하고 해결할 수 있는 LA의 융합생명과학의 허브가 될것으로
기대된다. USC는 Massachusetts Institute of Technology에 이어 미국에서 융합생명과학 전문 연구기관을 갖춘 소수의
대학 중 하나이다. | |
Michelson
Hall debuted Wednesday at USC’s University Park Campus. It will be the home of
the USC Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience, bringing great minds from
disciplines all over the campus — from the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts
and Sciences, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the Keck School of
Medicine of USC — under one roof to solve the world’s most pressing health
problems.
It’s the largest building on the University Park Campus, with
190,000 square feet of laboratory and office space. The $185 million facility
will house everything from fabrication and wet labs to conference rooms and
research space. It’s part of an overall effort to make L.A. a hub for
biotech.
The building is the result of a $50 million gift from retired
orthopedic spinal surgeon Gary K. Michelson and his wife, Alya Michelson. Read

Keck 의대의 Hussein Yassine 조교수가 알츠하이머 발병 고위험군에서 발현되는 유전자형 특성에 대한 연구비로 미국국립보건원으로부터
6백7십만달러를 받게 됐다.
Hussein Yassine과 그의 연구팀은 Alzheimer Disease Research
Center of USC와 협력하며 지방대사(lipid metabolism)가 APOE(아포지질단백질, apolipoprotein)유전자형에
따라 알츠하이머 발병 위험군에서 어떻게 상이한지에 대한 연구를 할 것이다. APOE4 유전자는 알츠하이머 발병 위험을 높이는 인자로 알려져있지만
실질적인 연관성에 대해서는 아직까지 미제로 남아있다. 신경학, 방사선학, 정신의학 분야 등의 7명의 교수가 포함돼 있는 이 유전자 연구팀은 두
차례에 걸친 프로젝트로 이를 규명할

A Keck
School of Medicine of USC researcher has been awarded two National Institutes of
Health grants totaling $6.7 million to conduct research that aims to further the
understanding of a genotype present in people with heightened risk of
Alzheimer’s disease.
Assistant Professor Hussein Yassine and his team, in
partnership with the Alzheimer Disease Research Center of USC, will study how
lipid metabolism varies by apolipoprotein (APOE) genotype in persons at risk for
