마샬 경영대학의 International Business Education and Research (IBEAR)프로그램은  중견 직장인을 대상으로한 12-month Immersion과정으로서, 급변하는 글로벌 경제환경속에서의 리더십과 전문경영 훈련에 중점을 둔 석사프로그램이다. 1978년에 설립된 후로 60개국 1800여명의 졸업생을 배출해내며 미국내에서 글로벌 비즈니스 교육의 선도적 위치를 점해왔다.

한국에서도 이 프로그램에 대한 평판과 만족도가 높아 매년 많은 지원자들이 있으며, 특히 대한항공과 LG 전자 등의 기업에서는 매년 재정적 지원하에 직원을 선발하여 보내고 있다.

지난 2017-2018년도 IBEAR 40기에는 10명의 한국인을 포함, 총 15개국에서 56명이 입학을 했고 이들의  평균연령은 35 세이며 평균 11년 이상의 경력을 가진 중견 직장인이다. 스폰서 없이 자비로 입학하는 학생은 기숙사에 대한 재정적 지원이 가능하며 장학금 기회도 있다.

프로그램에는 강의와 토론 수업외에  미국내 및 해외 기업탐방도 포함되며, 팀을 나누어 기업이 의뢰한 연구 프로젝트를 하기도 한다.

이미 2018년 여름에 시작하는 41기 학생모집이 시작되었으며 해외학생은 일찍 지원하는 것이 낫다. 입학과 지원에 관한 자세한 사항은 홈페이지에서 찾을 수 있다.

고등학생을 위한 USC Summer Programs 은 학생들이 다양한 학문을 접하고 대학생활을 경험할 수 있는 좋은 기회이다.  주 5일 하루 6시간 이상 가량  집중적으로 강의를 듣고 워크샵, 현장 학습 등도 참가한다. 4주 Credit 프로그램과  2주 Non-Credit  프로그램으로 나뉘어져 있어 학생들이 선택할 수 있다

SOTI (Summer Occupational Therapy Immersion Program) 는 미국에서 작업치료를 공부하거나 이 분야에 취업을 원하는 학생 및  전문가를 위한 여름 4주간의 프로그램이다. 강의뿐 아니라 직접 임상시설을 방문하여 미국에서의 작업치료에 대한 이해도를 높일 기회를 갖는다. 또한 약 20개국에서 온 참가자들과 함께 작업치료, 건강 복지 등에 관한 글로벌한 시각을 얻을 수 있다.

지난 11일 C. L. Max Nikias USC 총장과 USC 이사였던 고 Harlyne Norris의 딸 Lisa Hansen이 참석한 가운데 USC Health Sciences Campus에 신축된  Norris Healthcare Center (HC3)의 준공식이 열렸다. 이 건물내에는  the USC Institute of Urology와 더불어, 암환자와 그밖의 환자를 모두 치료하는 infusion center, 여성전문 치료 및 유방 영상 센터, 이식 연구소, 외래환자 수술센터가 들어서게 된다. 

HC3는 USC 의과대학의 발전에 수십년간 기여해 온 Kenneth T. and Eileen L. 재단의 도움으로 설립된 가장 최근 건물이다. USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center와 USC Norris Cancer Hospital, the Harlyne J. Norris Cancer Research Tower 모두 이 재단의 기부로 건립된 것이다. 

With a dramatic ribbon-cutting accompanied by the Trojan Marching Band, doors officially opened Jan. 11 at the new Norris Healthcare Center (HC3) on the USC Health Sciences Campus.

This building is the new home to the USC Institute of Urology, an infusion center treating both cancer and non-cancer patients, a women’s specialty care and breast imaging center, the Transplant Institute and the Outpatient Surgery Center. USC의 이사인 Andrew J. Viterbi와 Ming Hsieh가 미국 National Academy of Inventors의 펠로우로 선정됐다. National Academy of Inventors는 사회 전반의 발전을 이끄는 혁신적 개발에 성공한 과학자와 발명가를 대상으로 매년 펠로우를 선정하고 있다. 이를 통해 현재까지 세계적으로 권위 있는 229개 대학 및 정부와 비영리 연구소를 대표하는 757명의 펠로우가 선정됐다.

Andrew J. Viterbi는 Qualcomm Inc.의 공동 창업자로서 1962년 USC공과대학에서 박사학위를 받았다. 1967년 그가 고안한 신호 간섭을 제거하는 Viterbi algorithm은 향후 통신 기술의 발전에 상당한 기여를 했다. 2004년 USC 공과대학은 그의 업적과 모교에 대한 헌신을  기리기 위해  그의 이름을 따 Viterbi School of Engineering으로 개명했다. 

Ming Hsieh는 1984년 USC에서 전기전자학 석사학위를 받았으며 지문인식 기술의 혁신을 가져온 3M Cogent Inc.의 창업자이다. 그는 2010년 USC 전기공학의 발전과 창의를 꾀하는 연구를 위해 the Ming Hsieh Institute를 설립했다. 현재 USC 전기공학과의 정식 명칭은 Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering로, 이는 그의 업적과 공로를 기념하기 위한 것이다. 

미국 National Academy of Inventors는 2010년 University of Florida가 창의적이고 혁신적인 발명을 장려하기 위해 설립했으며, 현재는 미국내외의 많은 대학뿐아니라 정부 연구기관 및 비영리 연구소로 구성되어 있는 비영리 단체이다.  The Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO)과 함께  매년  특허수가 많은 톱 100개 대학 리포트를 내놓고 있다. 

USC Trustees Andrew J. Viterbi and Ming Hsieh have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors. The honor is one of the highest professional accolades given to people who have created or facilitated outstanding inventions that benefited society.

Viterbi, co-founder of Qualcomm Inc., is a professor of electrical engineering and namesake of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Fifty years ago, his groundbreaking Viterbi Algorithm, a mathematical formula to eliminate signal interference, paved the way for the widespread use of cellular technology.

Hsieh ’83, MS ’84 is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the founder of 3M Cogent Inc., which revolutionized fingerprint identification. In 2006, the self-made entrepreneur endowed the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering, which was named in his honor.

In 2010, he established the Ming Hsieh Institute to further support the department through initiatives that foster creativity and invention. He currently serves as president and CEO of Fulgent Genetics Inc.  Read more
