2018년도 USC 학부  합격자 모임
USC Admitted Student Event

2018년 USC Admitted Student Event가 4월 8일 (일) 오후 6-8시에 역삼동 '라움 에서 개최된다.  USC 학부 Admission manager인 Alexander Alvendia가 내한하여 학부의 입학허가를 받은 학생과 이들의 가족을 만나 축하하며 입학에 필요한 여러 다양한 정보를 제공한다. 행사에는 또한 교환학생으로 한국에 있는 USC 재학생 및 현 USC 학부모들도 여러 명 참여하여 Q/A 세션을 통해 각각 학업과 자녀의 유학생활에 관한 유익한 경험을 나눌 예정이다. 

외국 유학생과 그의 가족에게 Admitted Student Event는 직접 학교의 입학담당직원과 학생들을 만나 입학 절차나 학교생활 등에 관해  궁금한 점을 물어볼 수 있어서 최종 대학 선택에 도움이 되는 좋은 기회이다. USC는 우수한 외국인 학생을 유치하고자 다양한 노력을 해오고 있으며, 뛰어난 서비스를 학생들에게 제공하고 있다.  USC Admitted Student Event는 이러한 것을 보여주는 한 예라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 

USC Viterbi School of Engineering
Welcome Reception & Info Session

USC Viterbi 공과대학원 Welcome Reception이 4월 7일 (토) 오전 11시에  삼성동에 있는 InterContinental Seoul Coex호텔에서 개최된다. 이 행사는 Viterbi 대학원으로부터 2018년 가을 학기 입학 허가를 받은 학생들을 대상으로 하며, 이들이 입학에 필요한 준비와 네트워킹을 할 수 있도록 한다. Viterbi 대학원 Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment인 William Schwerin이 내한하여 석/박사 프로그램을 소개하고 LA생활 등에 관해 안내를 할 예정이다. 한편 이날 10시에는 USC Viterbi 공과대학원 프로그램에 관심이 있는 학생들을 위한 입학설명회도 마련돼 있다. 공학이나 수학, 혹은 물리 등 과학 분야를 전공하고 외국대학 진학에 관심이 있는사람은 누구나 참가할 수 있다.

Program Spotlight
 MFA in Design program at USC Roski School of Art and Design
USC Roski 미술디자인 대학이 2년과정의 디자인 석사학위과정을 신설하여 이번 가을부터 수업을 시작할 예정이다.

이 프로그램은 스튜디오 작업을 기반으로 한 것으로서 실험적 디자인, 사회적이고  문화적인 맥락속에서의  디자인 실용화, 디자인 이론과 창작방법론 등을 교육한다. 프로그램의 스튜디오들은 국제적인 명성의 화랑과 박물관, 또한 디자인이나 광고 회사들이 있는 LA에 소재해있어서 학생들은 비교불가한  학제간 연구와 작업기회를 제공받을 수 있다.

Summer Programs
Price International Summer Scholars Program (ISSP)

ISSP는  USC Price 행정대학에서 제공하는 외국인을 대상으로 한 2주 여름 프로그램이다. 커리큘럼은 public policy, governance, urban planning, health administration에 관한 강의와 더불어 항만청과 LA 시청을 비롯해 여러 커뮤니티 방문과 career development session 등 다양하게 짜여져있다.

지원대상: 만 18세 이상 
지원마감: 5월 25일

Summer Law and English Program
for Students in Law Degree and Practitioners

USC Gould School of Law의  Summer Law & English (SLE) Program 이 7월 9일부터 8월 3일까지 열린다. 이 프로그램은 법 전공자 혹은 관련 업무 종사자를 위한 약 4주간의 과정이다. 법률에 관계된 영어 공부뿐 아니라, 미국법의 다양한 분야에 대한 지식을 얻을 수 있다.

Nikias espouses university values and inclusion in presidential address

USC의  C. L. Max Nikias총장이 University Park 캠퍼스와 Health Sciences 캠퍼스에서 연례 연설을 했다. 그는 이 자리에서 USC가 세계적인 명문대학으로서 학문적 성취를 이루고  재정적 기반이 강화된 것에  대해 교직원들에게  감사를 표했다. 또한  Nikias총장은 연설을 통해 대학의  가치는  자유와 상상력을 발전시키고 진리를 탐구하는 것이며,  오늘날의 고등교육은 좀더 개방적이고 자유로운 사회를 창조하는데 중점을 두어야 한다고 피력했다. USC는 앞으로도 다양성과 공정성의 가치를 지향할 것이며  더욱 많은 사람들에게  교육의 혜택을 주어  세상을 변화 발전시키는데 앞장설 것이라고 강조했다.

USC is redoubling its commitment to upholding the crucial values of higher education, said USC President C. L. Max Nikias in his annual State of the University Address.

Speaking to faculty and staff at the University Park Campus on Feb. 26 and March 1 and at the Health Sciences Campus on Feb. 27, Nikias stressed the role of great universities in advancing freedom, imagination, compassion and the search for truth.

“Today, more than ever, higher education is the key to instilling the values that create an open and free society,” Nikias said. “This is a role of lasting merit, part of the enduring concept of education as enlightenment, of education that advances civilizations.” Read more

LLM and IBEAR program admitted student events held in Seoul
USC Gould School of Law Admitted Student Reception   

USC Gould 법대의 LLM프로그램과 USC Marshall 경영대학의 IBEAR 프로그램의 입학허가를 받은 학생들을 위한 admitted student event가 3월 14일과 27일에 각각 열렸다.

약 40명이 참가한 이번 Gould  LLM 프로그램의 행사에는 법대의 Graduate & International Programs office의 Program Manager 인  Ashely Sim이 직접 내한하여 입학허가를 받은 학생들을 환영하며 학교와 프로그램에 대한 프레젠테이션을 했다. 또한 유광훈 변호사 등 3명의  LLM 동문들이   Q/A세션을 통해 그들의 학업과 LA생활에 대한 경험담을 나누고 참가자들의 질의에 응답을 해주었다. 13일에는 따로  LLM 동문들을 위한 저녁 식사 모임이 열리기도 했다.  LLM Program
USC Marshall School of Business IBEAR Program Welcome Reception
 
한편 27일 광화문 Bistro Seoul에서 열린  Marshall 경영대학 IBEAR  41기 환영모임에는 입학허가를 받은 학생들을 포함, 약 25명이 참석을 했다. 이 모임에는 Admissions and Alumni Relation의 Fujiko T. Terayama  Director와  Program  Director인 Dr. Drobnick,  손봉락 전 USC 한국동문회 회장, 현 IBEAR 모임의 함영준 회장과 심요순 총무, USC Korea 의 최희연 Director가 참석하여  입학허가를  받은 학생들을 환영하고 격려했다.  또한 Dr. Drobnick은 인사말을 통해  IBEAR 프로그램의 설립 배경과 취지를 설명하고 졸업생들간의 네트워킹을 강조했다. 

IBEAR 41 한국 학생 중에는  S-Oil, LG Electronic, 오뚜기, KB Asset Management  등 대기업의 직장인들이 다수 포함되어 있으며, 회사의  재정적 지원하에  수학하는 이들도 많다.  IBEAR Program 
USC Gould School of Law and Marshall School of Business held a welcome reception for newly admitted LLM and IBEAR students in Seoul on March 14th and 27th respectively. The purpose of these events was to congratulate the admitted students in Korea and give them insights about USC and its program.

At the Gould LLM reception, for approximately 40 attendees, Ashely Sim, the program manager of Graduate & International Programs office made a presentation about USC life and the LLM program. Three alumni including Daniel Kwanghun Yoo, the attorney at law of Yoon &Yang also attended the event and gave advice to the students in the Q&A session.
The Marshall IBEAR 41 welcome reception was hosted by Richard Drobnick (Program  Director) and Fujiko Terayama (Director of Admissions and Alumni Relations).  About 25 people, including Korean IBEAR alumni and newly accepted students, attended. Dr. Drobnick explained the purpose and characteristics of the program and emphasized the importance of networking among the alumni in his opening address. Several key members of Korean IBEAR alumni group shared valuable information and their experience with the newly admitted students.

The IBEAR MBA is a one-year, accelerated, full time, international MBA program designed for mid-career professionals being groomed to assume senior global positions.
