5월 4일은 USC의 Day of SCupport 기금 운동을 하는 날입니다. 이는 학교 동문, 학생과 부모, 교직원 등 전세계의 트로잔 가족이 USC에 대한 지지와 관심의 표현으로 각자 학교에 기부금 후원을 하는 crowdfunding 행사입니다. USC의 International office가 있는 아홉 도시에서는 Country Scholarship 기부운동으로 이어져, 한국에서는 이날 USC 한국 Scholarship 기금 마련 운동이 실시될 예정입니다. Country Scholarship은 해당 국가의 학부생 중 성적 우수자를 대상으로 수여가 되며, 운용을 위한 최소 기금액은 1년에 1만달러를 필요로 합니다. USC의 해외 유학생 중에서 한국 학생의 수는 중국, 인도에 이어 3위를 차지할 만큼 많은 한국 유학생들이 재학하고 있습니다. 한국도 다른 나라들처럼 Country Scholarship 장학금 수혜자를 배출할 수 있도록 뜻깊은 기금 운동에 여러분의 많은 관심과 후원을 부탁드립니다. 기부는 최소 금액 제한이 없으며, 신용카드로 하단의 "Give Now!"에서 할 수 있습니다.

USC Gould School of Law의 Summer Law & English (SLE) Program 이 7월 9일부터 8월 3일까지 열린다. 이 프로그램은 법 전공자 혹은 관련 업무 종사자를 위한 약 4주간의 과정이다. 법률에 관계된 영어 공부뿐 아니라, 미국법의 다양한 분야에 대한 지식을 얻을 수 있다. 지원 마감일: 5월 15일 (마감일 이전 지원 권장)

| USC sees record number of applicants for fall 2018 admission |

USC는 올해 가을 학기 학부 전형에 6만 4,256명의 지원자 중에서 약 13%인 8,256 명의 학생을 선발했다. 이는 개교 이래 가장 많은 학생이 지원한 것이고 또한 제일 높은 경쟁률을 기록한 것이다. 선발된 학생의 평균 unweighted GPA는 3.86이고, 85% 학생들의 공인시험성적은 상위 5%, 60%는 상위 1% 이다. Timothy Brunold, Dean of Admission은 2018학년도 합격생 선발은 뛰어난 지원자들이 너무 많아 그 어느때보다도 어려웠다고 말했다. 미국 내에서는 캘리포니아 주 학생이 39%로 가장 많으며, 다음으로 텍사스, 뉴욕, 일리노이주 순이다. 또한 선발학생 중 17 %를 차지하는 해외학생은 중국, 인도, 한국, 캐나다, 브라질 국적의 학생들이 많다. |

An unprecedented surge in applications has made 2018 a historic year for USC admissions. A record 64,000 students applied, a 14 percent increase from the year before and the biggest jump in two decades. "We’ve never had a harder time selecting which applicants to put in the classroom,” said Timothy Brunold, USC’s dean of admission. “We could hardly believe the numbers, and now we’re feeling the pain of having to turn away so many candidates we admire. At the same time, it’s a breakthrough year for USC.”
Academic achievement increased as the average GPA and standardized test scores continued climbing. The record number of applicants forced the USC Office of Admission to accept just 13 percent – the lowest ever for USC. The admission rate dropped a full 3 percentage points. Read more |

Nikias honor reflects USC’s investment in brain mapping, bioscience |

C.L. Max Nikias USC 총장이 지난 4월 14일 Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics로부터 Humanitarian Award를 수여받았다. SBMT는 오바마 전 미대통령이 설립한 비영리단체로서 신경장애와 관련된 진단 및 치료, 재활 등을 돕기위해 뇌지도화, 줄기세포, 나노테크놀로지 등의 연구를 돕는 기관이다. SBMT의 Humanitarian Award는 환자들의 생존과 삶의 질 향상을 위해 세계적인 기여를 한 의료진과 과학자들에게 수여된다. Nikias 총장은 "USC를 대표하여 이 상을 받게 된 것을 큰 영광으로 생각하며, 전 대학 차원에서 brain mapping과 신경과학 및 생명과학의 발전을 위해 투자와 연구를 계속하겠다"라고 말했다.
USC는 Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute를 통해 알츠하이머 질환연구에 선도적인 역할을 하고 있고, 또 지난 11월에는 Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience를 설립했으며, 이외에도 Dornsife 인문대학, Viterbi 공과대학 등 전 대학을 통틀어 인류의 건강과 복지 문제에 관련된 연구에 막대한 투자를 해왔다.
USC President C. L. Max Nikias was honored April 14 with the Humanitarian Award of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics. The award is presented to physicians and scientists who have made significant contributions to survival and quality of life of patients across the globe.

4월 8일, 오후 6시 강남 "라움"에서 USC Admitted Student Event가 열렸다. 이는 새로 USC 학부 입학허가를 받은 한국 학생들을 초대하여 기쁨을 함께 나누고, 입학 정보를 전달하는 행사이다. 약 60명의 학생과 학부모, USC Korea Office의 담당자들이 참석한 가운데, USC의 International Admission Officer인 Alexander Alvendia와 Associate Director인 Kevin Hostetler가 입학에 필요한 절차와 USC의 학생 서비스 및 LA 생활에 관해 소개를 했다. 또한 이 자리에는 현재 연세대에 교환학생으로 있는 USC 학생들과 한국학부모회 회원들이 초대되어, 합격한 학생과 학부모들과 교류를 나누고 이들의 궁금한 점에 관해 답변을 해주었다.
On April 8, USC Admitted Student Event took place at The Raum in Seoul. The purpose of this event was to congratulate admitted students in Korea and give them information on USC and LA life. Approximately 60 admitted students and their family members attended the event. Alexander Alvendia, International Admission Officer and Kevin Hostetler, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission hosted the event to introduce the next procedures for enrollment as well as USC’s student services and LA life. In addition, USC exchange students in Korea together with Trojan Parents Network members joined the event for a Q&A session.

지난 7일, USC Viterbi 공과대학원의 Welcome Reception이 서울 인터컨티넨탈 코엑스 호텔에서 열려, 입학허가를 받은 약 10여 명이 학생이 자리를 함께 했다. Viterbi 공과 대학원의 Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment인 William Schwerin이 행사를 위해 내한하여 입학허가를 받은 지원자들을 환영하고, 학교와 LA생활 등에 관해 자세한 안내를 했다.
USC Viterbi Welcome Reception was held on April 7 in Seoul. About ten admitted students attended this event. William Schwerin, Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment explained Master’s & Ph.D Programs in Engineering and Computer Science, campus life, and research & career development opportunities.
