The WLSA (World Leading Schools Association) Foundation과 Korea International School (KIS)이 공동 주최하는 대학 입학설명회가 오는 7월 20, 21 양일에 걸쳐 열린다. 이 설명회는 WLSA가 주최하는 연례행사로서 올해에는 USC Korea Office가 USC를 대표해 참가하며, 이외에도 Cornell University를 비롯한 미국의 10여개 대학의 입학 관계자가 참석하여 입학과 관련된 정보를 전달할 예정이다. WLSA재단은 네덜란드에 본부를 둔 비영리법인으로 세계 국제학교와 고등교육기관과의 네트워크 구축을 활동 목표로 하고 있다.
7월 20일에 열리는 입학설명회는 KIS 제주 캠퍼스에서 진행되는 WLSA Student Conference 프로그램의 일환으로 컨퍼런스 참가자들만 입장이 가능하다. 그러나 KIS 판교 캠퍼스에서 열리는 21일 설명회에는 누구나 참석할 수 있으므로 원하는 학생과 학부모는 아래 링크에서 신청하면 된다.

USC의 네 분야의 미래형 학제간 프로젝트가 연 1억 6천 900만달러의 규모의 Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI)를 올해부터 최대 5년간 지원받는다. 이 연구 지원금은 미국 국방부가 한가지 이상의 과학 기술 분야를 연구하는 학제간 연구 팀에 수여하는 것으로, USC Dornsife 인문과학대학과 Viterbi 공과대학에 기반한 네 연구팀이 치열한 경쟁을 뚫고 선정됐다. 이들 팀은 각각 생명공학에 착안한 전기전자공학인 Livtronics, 컴퓨터 딥러닝을 이용한 화학 분자 결합 예측, 전기화학 프로세스에서 액체와 고체의 인터페이스 연구와 기계공학과 산업시스템 공학의 관점에서 공모와 경쟁에 관한 네트워크 게임이론을 연구할 예정이다.

USC Price 행정대학이 프랑스 파리 제 2대학인 Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas과 폭력적인 자생적 극단주의에 관한 협동 연구를 위해 양해각서를 체결했다. 이 양해각서에는 교직원 및 학생 교환 프로그램과 공동 연구 활동 등 두 학교의 학문적 협력을 도모하는 내용이 포함됐다.
Price행정대학 Safe Communities Institute의 디렉터인 Erroll Southers 교수는 프랑스 뿐 아니라 미국의 미니애폴리스에서도 극단주의와 관련된 비슷한 현상이 발생하고 있음을 언급하며, 첩보 문제 뿐 아니라 공공 보건 문제의 맥락에서 프랑스가 어떻게 극단화 현상과 과격화 그룹의 소속 충원 문제를 다루는지에 대해 연구할 필요가 있다고 말했다.
The USC Price School of Public Policy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas to engage in future collaborations, especially in the area of homegrown violent extremism studies.
The MOU seeks to establish cooperative relations and develop academic interchange among the universities over a period of three years in academic collaboration at all levels, exchange of faculty members, exchange of students and joint research activities. Read more |

USC SCend Off for incoming students held in Seoul |

지난 6월 29일 동원그룹 대강당에서 2018 USC SCend Off 행사가 열렸다. 학부 및 대학원 신입생과 가족, 재학생, 동문 등 약140 명이 참석한 가운데, 행사는 USC 한국동문회의 박성제 총무와 USC Korea의 최희연 Director, USC 한국 학부모회의 장지원 회장의 환영사로 시작됐다. 이어서 KBSO를 비롯한 여러 USC의 한인학생모임의 임원들이 캠퍼스 및 LA 생활에 관한 정보를 슬라이드 를 보이며 자세히 설명했다. 이밖에도 신입생을 위해 USC Korea는 정착안내서를 이메일로 발송했다. USC SCend Off는 매년 동문회에서 새로 트로잔 가족이 된 입학생을 환영하기 위해 주관하는 행사이다.
On June 29, USC SCend Off was held at Dongwon Group Hall in Seoul. This year’s SCend Off attracted more than 140 people including students and parents. Attendees were greeted by welcome speeches from Sung Jae Park, Secretary General of USC Alumni Club of Korea, Hee-Yeon Choi, Director of USC Korea, and Ji Won Jang, President of Trojan Parents Network of Korea. Student members from KBSO (Korean Business Student Organization) and other USC Korean Students association gave presentations on academics, on/off campus life, and general tips about LA life. Also, USC Korea provided the incoming students with the survival guide. |
