Dear USC Alumni,

Happy Lunar New Year!  I wish you and your family a great new year filled with good health and happiness.  I am writing to update you on some of the highlights of the state of USC as it relates to Korea.

1.  The Opening Ceremony of USC Korea will be held on Monday, 3/15/10, at Westin Chosun Hotel.  The event will begin with an "open house" of the USC Korea office, 1:00-5:00 PM, followed by a reception at 6:30 PM and a formal dinner at 7:15 PM.  The co-hosts for the Opening Ceremony are Prof. Adam Powell, Vice Provost for Globalization, and Chairman Yang Ho Cho, USC Trustee.  Please see the accompanying electronic invitation for further information on the event and for registration procedures.

2.  USC Korea is currently recruiting students to serve as interns in the Trojan Internship Program.  The positions are open to high school and college students with limited stipends available to qualifying students.  Work schedules are flexible.  Please see the attachment for specific qualifications requirements.  Volunteer opportunities are also available.

3.  The USC Gould School of Law held a student recruitment session for its Master of Laws (LL.M.) program on 1/8/10, in Seoul.  The event was attended by approximately 25 former and prospective students.  An alumni dinner was held, following the event.

4.   Korean Studies Institute (KSI) at USC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea National Assembly on Thursday, 1/28/10, to collaborate on research, education, and government activities.

5.  USC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, 2/2/10, with IFEZA, to establish research and education programs in the Asia Global University campus in Songdo.  The University is currently conducting a feasibility study and has undertaken planning activities to determine the specific programs, research activities, and infrastructure resources required to open USC programs in Songdo.  The IFEZA will provide a planning grant of just under $1 million to the USC Office of Globalization.

6.  The USC Marshall School of Business is currently accepting applications for the 4-week Summer Global Business Program in Los Angeles.  Designed for non-business majors, the program will focus on business strategy, finance, marketing, operations, and organizations.  The curriculum includes lectures, case studies, corporate visits, and experiential learning activities.  Please visit www.marshall/edu/globalsummer or e-mail at <globalsummer@marshall.usc.edu> for more information.

The mission of USC Korea is to promote collaborative research, forge academic partnerships, enhance alumni relations, and extend the universitys service activities, including providing information and advising related to admissions and programs at USC.  Please contact USC Korea at 773-0502 for further information.

I hope to see you all on Monday, 3/15/10.
Thank you.
