JOB SUMMARY:



Leads the development and execution of strategies and programs in coordination with the Office of the Provost for a regional office located in Shanghai, China.  Serves as a central point in central and northern China in support of university academic, research, recruitment and alumni programs. Plans and develops regional office services, programs, activities, and policies. Leads development of long-range and short-term strategic planning for central and northern China.  Reports to the Associate Provost for Global Initiatives in Los Angeles.



JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:



Directs the strategic and day to day operations for a regional office located in Shanghai. Prepares proposals related to development of regional office programs, services, activities and/or processes.  Coordinates and facilitates cooperative program and joint venture efforts between the University and Chinese government agencies, private corporations and universities.  Explores opportunities and cooperative ventures for USC schools and faculty.



Leads the development of long-range and short-term strategic planning for the regional office.

Participates in establishing operating objectives and priorities. Executes strategies for marketing

or promoting recruitment and admissions, as well as personal networking, newsletters and publications or other communications materials, and events planning. Executes and supports a recruitment strategy to attract scholars.



Develops, enhances and maintains automated or manual systems and procedures to facilitate

regional office operations. Develops annual budgets and provides regular financial status reports.

Establishes and maintains a comprehensive databases of important contacts (of USC alumni, business, university and government leaders as well as students and parents) in both English and Chinese.



Establishes and maintains appropriate network of academic and professional contracts. Maintains currency through professional organizations and publications. Attends meetings, seminars and conferences; makes formal presentations. Represents USC and its academic units as appropriate.



Develops and implements security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinates security activities with University Security Services Department. Promotes and maintains standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintains knowledge of University's crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensures dissemination of security related information to staff.



Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.  





JOB Qualifications:



Minimum Education:  

Master¡¯s Degree

Minimum experience:  

7 Years

Minimum field-of-Expertise:

Directly related experience in the business and/or educational sector in the fields of communication, human resources or executive development. Understanding of the academic culture.  Mainland China and U.S. education background. Fully conversant in the Chinese and U.S. cultures. Speaks Mandarin and English fluently.

Preferred Education:  

Doctoral degree, but not required

Preferred Field-of-Expertise:

Degree from USC preferred, but not required

Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills. Must have unquestioned ethics, integrity and discretion.
